Story : Two dim-witted but earnest cops are sent on an undercover mission to a college to bust a local drug ring. Will they manage to bust the drug kingpin?

Review : 22 Jump Street is one of the better playful satires on the buddy cop sub-genre to be made in contemporary times. This film doesn't take itself seriously at all and that's a good thing because if it did, it would be abysmal. Instead, you're laughing with them and you're in on all the jokes.

And so, we have Greg Jenko (Tatum) and Morton Schmidt (Hill), two Simple Simons who try to bust drug deals and various dirty deeds done cheap on the street. However, Deputy Chief Hardy (Offerman) is almost convinced of their incompetence but nonetheless decides to assign them to a new drug case under the irascible Captain Dickson (Cube), whose scowl is as fierce as his language is colourful. The synthetic drug in question is curiously called 'WHYPHY', which is an acronym for 'Work Hard? Yes. Play Hard? Yes'.

Once 'embedded' in college, Jenko falls into frat-boy fun times with a little help from college stud Zook (Russell), who is every bit a lunkhead as Jenko the jockstrap cop. Together, Jenko and Zook bond over benchpresses, babes and beer. This new-found bromance creates a rift between Jenko and the spurned Schmidt, who instead finds solace in great conversations and multiple orgasms with poetry student Maya (Dickson). Also, will Schmidt and Jenko manage to put their beef behind them and be 'bros' again? Also look out for cameos like that of Queen Latifah who plays Dickson's wife.

What's interesting is that directors Lord and Miller never lose sight about what they're serving up their audience - a simple and enjoyable comedy based on an old TV show (*21 Jump Street* that ran from 1987 to 1991). Here, all the veiled jokes as well as the blatant gags (Hill and Michael Bacall co-write) might even warrant a second viewing. Go for a load of laughs and stay for the end credits.
