Appavam Veenjum: (Body&Blood), the movie directed by Viswan, claims to be a romantic musical thriller. However, it shows no romance whatsoever.
The films starts with the note - "Body without mind is Brutish", and revolves around the love and revenge theme.
Jude (Sunny Wayne), a musician from Goa, is apparently bored of the sea and the wind, and comes to a hill station. There he meets a rich old man, Fernandes, in a bar. Both soon become friends after a couple of drinks. Fernandes, a music lover, asks Jude to drop him at his house. There he meets Merlin (Ramya Krishnan) Fernandes' beautiful wife.
However, things are not all that rosy between the couple. Apparently, Merlin cheated on her husband with his friend 16 years ago and since then the couple have been leading separate lives in the same house. Fernandes opens up about his life to Jude whom he calls dude. He even says that he has not had sex with his wife for the last 16 years.
The very next day, Fernandes asks Jude to come and stay in his outhouse and form a band in the hotel bar. Fernandes has only two hobbies, hunting and drinking! They go for hunting in the morning and listen to Beatles songs at the bar in the night. Meanwhile, Merlin and Jude develop a friendship.
Then comes Fernandes' daughter (played by Reshma Rathore), who takes a fancy for Jude. However, he tells her he is not interested and she takes leave.
Finally, it is revealed that Jude's father was Merlin's lover and Fernandes' friend, and he came here to take revenge of his mother's death by sleeping with the lady love of his father! In the end, Merlin commits suicide. And Fernandes thanks Jude as he was not able to kill his wife and he has done it!
The entire movie gives you a haunting feel. Ouseppachan's music adds to the feel. Beatles songs saves half of the movie.
While Pratap Pothan justifies his role, Ramya has nothing much to do in the film other than appear in pretty saris. Sunil Sugatha, Balu Varghese, Lishoy, Rajesh, Arun are wasted in blink-and-miss roles.
