Baywatch Story: This comic adaptation of the 90’s beach-set TV series revolves around an elite lifeguard crew, headed by Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson), who must stick together to keep their shores clean and secure from baddie Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra).

Baywatch Review: First things first, Priyanka Chopra looks smokin’ hot in this two-hour-long behind the scenes footage, masquerading as a film.

Despite her first Hollywood film giving her a limited scope as an actor; the desi girl infuses that much-needed glamour to the proceedings as opposed to the babes in red, who are not a patch on Pamela Anderson. Despite flaunting their assets in abundance, both Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach are startlingly forgettable even in the iconic slow-mos. And sadly, they are just one of the factors that make this action/comedy hard to stay afloat.

The plot is a joke (pun intended) but it’s the film’s bizarre choppy editing that deserves a Razzie. It makes Victoria and her two lame sidekicks look like an interruption (literally and figuratively) as their random appearances bear no consequence to the parallel lifeguard track. The scenes lack connect and the characters have zilch chemistry; except for Zac and Dwayne’s amusing banter.

The ridiculous dumbness of Efron’s character is hilarious. Speaking of team spirit he explains, “There’s no I in team, but there is me.” Johnson mocking the cocky ‘pretty boy’ is the funniest thing about this cheesy comedy, which spoofs the original series more often than not. It’s all mindless fun but things go downhill when the movie turns into an unfunny and illogical crime drama. More drug packets are conveniently discovered on the beach than seashells and characters spout wisdom by uttering lines to the effect of, ‘You don’t Baywatch, you are Baywatch.’ Eventually, even the deliberate bad jokes dry up and the gorgeous beach shots struggle to keep you under its ‘future vacation’ dream spell.

And finally, for fans of the original, this one’s no ogle fest either. This ‘baewatch’ ceases to be a treat for the eyes the minute you see Zac Efron dressed in drag and launching a ‘vomit comet’ every time he slips into the swimming pool.
