The Cholurpalya Strikers team dream of winning the galli cricket tournament, which they've consistently lost in the finals to the Malleswaram Rockers. Will they be able to do it when the winning stakes are at an all time high?
This film by MPradeep Raj is a remake of Chenna 600028, which released nearly a decade ago. The good bit is that the emotions and sentiments attached to cricket, especially galli cricket, has only quadrupled since, making the film's story relevant to the local boys or the padde hudugru even today.
While the original was a film filled with young and aspiring talent with very little known names, this Kannada remake has the members of the Karnataka Bulldozers team, the winning cricket team at the celebrity T20 league for film stars. This raises the stakes automatically, ensuring that the actors already have the image of cricketers. Also, most of them have their real names as the screen names, which works for the film in its own way.
The film is nearly a frame-by-frame copy of the original, with some songs and background score also being retained from the original. The film follows the trials and tribulations of a galli cricket team called Cholurpalya Strikers -- where most of the members seem to be they typical wastrels, who would give up everything for cricket. There are two love stories too amidst the cricket frenzy.
Should one watch this? Yes, it makes for a good one-time watch as it has relatively good performers and a story that will strike a chord with most people. There are a few shortcomings, when it comes to some of the casting choices, but they can be overlooked as the film entertains eventually. Sudeep's voice over is an added bonus for fans.
