Basappa alias Bullet Basya is the village panchayat lord and the local Casanova. He falls for a simple girl named Kaveri, only to realize the village bumpkin Muthu, who is Basya's lookalike, is engaged to be married to him. What does the evil Basya do?

Jayatheertha has chosen to direct this story, which has been penned by comic actor Sharan. Having proved his mettle with the multi-award-winning Olave Mandara and followed it up with a rather atypical Tony, this one is rather disappointing. This rather regressive potboiler, filled with double entendres, may make on cringe at several moments.

Though, for the Sharan fans and front benchers, it is these scenes that become the USP, for they draw whistles. One can even predict the rather crass metaphors and similes used to describe women and sex.

The story has not much to offer -- the director and actor rely heavily on the dialogues and the heavy physical comedy to ensure the hoots and whistles. Also, there are plenty of scenes that work as allusions to matinee idols, ranging from Rajkumar and Shankar Nag to even Yogaraj Bhat.

Sharan entertains, much like his fans expect him to, but there is nothing new in the script. Hariprriya has a few interesting scenes in the second half, which she excels in, while she looks her sensuous best in the songs.
The comic ensemble including Yathiraj, Anand, Rangayana Raghu and Sadhu Kokila, do their bit. The cinematography and art direction is commendable, while the music, unlike other Sharan films, doesn't have the zing, with only one chart-topping number.

Take note: Bullet Basya is meant just for die-hard Sharan fans and those are game for senseless and sexist comedy.

This one is meant for the college-goers and the romantics, for there is a love story that exists behind the mask of this part-romantic part-regressive tale.
