: A young man tracks down the people who are trying to eliminate his best friend. But there's more to it than meets the eye.
: Surya (Sundeep Kishen) is a Vizag-based young man who stays with his mother (Tulasi) and sister Anu (Sathiga), a student of medicine. He is part of a catering business with his best friend Mahesh (Vikrant). Mahesh is a good-natured chap but he is short-tempered and is frequently getting into brawls because of this. He is in love with Anu but Surya's mother does not approve of him. On the other hand is a gang of ruthless criminals led by Sambasivudu (Harish Uthaman). The gang is now after Mahesh and Surya too goes against Mahesh which leads to the latter ending up in jail. Why did Surya go against his best friend and why is the gang after Mahesh, forms the crux of the story.
Sundeep Kishen has teamed up with Tamil director Suseenthiran for the first time and the film did create quite some curiosity as to how the combination would shape up on screen. The first half of the film focuses on establishing the various characters in Surya's world. Mehreen plays Janani, the love interest of Surya and although she looks beautiful on screen, in typical Tollywood style, she is there in the film because it needs a heroine. Tulasi as Surya's angry mother is way too loud for comfort. Vikrant gets quite a meaty role and he is alright. Sathya also gets a substantial role and he does provide comic relief occasionally. Harish Uthaman as Sambasivudu has got good screen presence.
The first half is supposedly meant to lay a strong base for the second half of the film but the lack of depth in the script proves to be its main undoing. There is nothing wrong with the execution, the director does a good job. But after a certain point, in trying to make the plot unique and interesting, the director makes it convoluted and ultimately, when the actual reason behind the whole drama is revealed, it does seem a bit too frivolous. There is nothing remarkable about the songs but the background music is good. Unfortunately, it tries to set a tempo which is not matched by the proceedings on screen. Sundeep Kishen as a desperate young man trying to protect his loved ones puts in a decent performance but his character suffers as a result of a poorly etched script. There is an element of predictability about the various twists and turns. The director tries to keep the audience hooked with his screenplay but in a thriller, the basic premise of the story has to be equally good. And when the foundation is weak, it is very difficult to make up for it by getting the rest of the act right. That's what happens to
. The introduction scene of the film itself in which Surya's father dies because of a botched operation leads the audience to think that it would be connected with the main plot but turns out to be completely insignificant. It is a well-executed film but the writing definitely could have been better. And that would have made all the difference to the first straight Telugu film of Suseenthiran.
