Synopsis : Director Thumma Kiran whips up a delicious fare but it all depends on people's tastes on whether they would like to relish a dish without popular names.

Movie Review : In Tollywood where there are set formulae, expected storylines, familiar ingredients, typical typecasting of artistes, and anticipated twists, Dil Deewana comes as a breath of fresh air. Of course, it all revolves around romance but not of the cinematic variety. It's more closer to life.

Surya (Raj Arjun Gummi) is sure he wants to marry Sri (Kritika Singhaal) but even after four years of romance, it doesn't happen. Surya promises that he would marry once his sister is married off. But there's pressure on Sri from her parents for her to get married. She's got her own reasons to pressurise Surya and he's got his own reasons for delaying it.

Santosh (Rohith Reddy Madupu) is a wannabe film director and is smitten by Divya (Neha Deshpande).

What makes life difficult for the girls - Sri and Divya - is that there are two other characters after them, swearing love for them, and desperately wanting to get married to them. They have to ward them off and it is a task. The two are not villains baying for their pound of flesh but truly have a weakness for these two girls - except that going by their looks, the girls can't fall for them. And supporting these two boys are their fathers who want that their sons should get married to the girls of their choice.

The characters live like they are have been taken out of the world surrounding you and me and are not cinematic creations. The tender love of the parents is shown in the way they react to the decisions their children make. Technically, there's something about the way each shot has been framed and a large amount of credit will have to go to the cinematographers Jayapal and Vamsi and also the editor Karthika Srinivas for enabling the story being told in a telling manner. Music by Ram Narayan and the offbeat songs elevate the story.

Not just the lead artistes but also the character actors in the film act in just the way it is appropriate in the scenes. It does go on to show the care that debut director Thumma Kiran has taken in first picturising the movie in his mind. One can, of course, point out the flaws. With his kind of character, for instance, Surya would probably not have been capable of giving an evil idea to industrialist Tilak (Nagendra Babu). And then there's Sri, telling a half-truth to her parents about Surya leaving her in the lurch on the road. It wasn't quite her like.

Director Thumma Kiran whips up a delicious fare but it all depends on people's tastes on whether they would like to relish a dish without popular names.
