A fully-loaded LPG tanker truck topples over in the heart of the city and as the gas dangerously spreads to more areas, the fire force - led by their shrewd leader Vijay - tries to bring the situation under control. Lack of cooperation from police, members of the public and a mysterious character poses hurdles in their work. Will the force succeed against all odds?
"How many of you want to be a fireman?" The silence among kids when fireman Vijay (Mammooty) asks this question, and his words on the relevance of the important yet thankless job, forms the backbone of the movie. A tribute to the services provided by firemen, the film is a respite from oft-repeated plots.
All hell breaks loose when a fully-loaded LPG tanker truck topples over in the heart of the city. Gas spreads dangerously to residential areas and the one that houses the central jail. The fire force team, led by Vijay, springs to action but their task is cut out as the police force, politicians and common men mar their smooth functioning. Vijay's attempt to save the day, backed by his selfless teammates, forms the rest of the plot.
The movie keeps you on the edge of the seat throughout and there is no dull moment. The freshness of the subject and its intention in recognizing the tribe of firemen is commendable. Mammootty stands out as the brainy Vijay. Salim Kumar is striking in his dubious avatar and Unni Mukundan is appreciable, with his character's insecurities portrayed with elan. Nyla Usha is convincing as a police commissioner.
On the flip side, the special effects involving fire fail to impress. One wonders why Mammootty, a fireman, walks around in casual attire. The plot also does not justify the inclusion of the initial scenes involving Salim Kumar and his ailing daughter. Besides there is no answer as to who is behind the conspiracy, though the director attempts to justify this by making Vijay say that proving the truth is up to the police and being a fireman, he doesn't have to bother about it. Watch the movie for its fresh approach and thrill.
