Review: Despite the title, and much like the original, this film doesn't even pretend to be even anything remotely spooky. Instead, it comes across more as a nearly two-hour long joke reel that never takes itself too seriously. Devoted fans of the old film will no doubt look to compare almost every frame, but this film is best enjoyed as being seen as a standalone. Sure, there are quite a few cameos to delight diehards of Ivan Reitman's flick. But they aren't really all that consequential to the plot.

Abby and Jillian are the feisty ones, while Erin, when she's not tackling ghouls, only seems to have eyes for their hired help, Kevin (Hemsworth). Hemsworth plays a character that is quite a gender bender, so to speak. We've all heard of the stereotype of the 'sexy secretary'. Here, he's the male version of that and distilled down to pure eye candy for the film's leading ladies. He doesn't have much to say in the film but the Ghostbusters are so ga-ga over him that he could read out a menu to the ladies and they'd still find it interesting. Patty Leslie Jones' character however, does seem to come across as a bit of a cliche, with her mannerisms appearing to be a bit over-the-top.

And then of course, there are the various ghost busting gadgets, guns and more. The proton blasters as seen in the old film are faithfully recreated here. And their vehicle, quite appropriately given the theme, is a hearse. The ladies waste no time in souping it up into something special. Jillian incidentally, is the gadget guru of the lot. The film does, however, drag a bit towards the conclusion and it may seem too loud at times. Ghostbusters also takes a clear potshot at sexism in general, but by and large, it delivers a decent amount of fun.

Couple of good laughs, good comic timing by Chris Hemsworth, but too much VFX usage at the end...lacks the charm of the original ghostbusters and the theme track does not even come close to the original one.
