Times of India
Performance wise, the ensemble cast does really well.
A thriller is halfway there if the location is convincing enough and
Gogol Er Kirti
, with its old bonedi bari and mysterious temples, scores high in this regard. Debutante director Pompy Ghosh Mukherjee has given serious thought to the location for her detective story and that has paid off.
The jungle, a river surrounded by hills, a puzzle associated with age-old deity and the whiff of hidden treasure in the labyrinths of the old house makes the film perfect for kids.
Gogol and Puti make most of latest adventure
But when it comes to adults, who will normally look beyond the location and the lure of a hidden treasure, several flaws play spoilsport. For one, is the blatant in-film branding of the lead sponsors. Be it confectioners or stationery, jewellery or health food brands, the dialogues mentioning these are as hilarious as the curly wig Indraneil wears. Same can be said about the music and screen presence of the music director. It is disconcerting to see Surojit appear on screen to perform a number after singing playback for another actor. It's not easy to ignore the fact that two people have the same singing voice in the film.
When detective Gogol and his aide devoured chocolates
Performance wise, however, the ensemble cast does really well. After all, most of them are veterans and can get into the garb of any character with ease. Among them, Subhasish as both Jadab and Madhav and Sumit Samaddar as the dumb Mongla deserve special mention. Last but not the least, Ahijit as Gogol and Toshana as the tiny but super smart Puti steal hearts.
