Commander Ram is a fearless para commando who gets a sudden call from home that says his elder brother, an honest Collector Sathyamurthy, has committed suicide. Upon reaching home he stumbles upon clues that show him that there is more than what meets the eye. This mission to find out the truth forms the rest of the story.

Krishna made a good debut with Gajakessari, while Sudeep's been on a good run at the box office. This film obviously had a lot of expectations attached to it. Hebbuli, an action thriller that has a sentimental underlying message, delivers a slick, fast paced film that keeps you hooked throughout and entertained. The film is paisa vasool entertainment that also has some moments that leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

The film begins with a high octane fight sequence in Kashmir that sets the right tone, followed by an uber cool introduction track. The film begins with a cute love story, but immediately changes track into a well edited thriller. The film, unlike most of the big star entertainers, isn't too long and is well under two and a half hours long. This works to its advantage as it is peppered with just the right amount of comedy and romance, without taking away focus from the main plot.

Sudeep is undoubtedly the one leading the pack, looking his most stylish yet till date and giving a performance that makes you want to root for him. Amala Paul had a cute role for her Kannada debut and she shares a good chemistry with Sudeep. The three main antagonists, Ravi Kishan, P Ravi Shankar and Kabir Duhan Singh, justify their casting and do a good job. Chikkanna's comedy track, which is funny take on Vishnuvardhan's Bandhana, is worth a mention too.

Technically, the film shines with good cinematography, background score and editing. The choreography and costumes add extra charm. The film, maybe, could have done with one lesser song, but one doesn't mind as the songs make for a good visual treat.

If you don't want the typical masala entertainment and are looking for something that moves beyond the staple big hero potboilers then this is for you. Hebbuli cleverly integrates an important issue, while still retaining massy elements. Go watch this one, it will not fail to entertain you.
