Summary / Analysis
Times of India
Aditya Vardhan (Adhyayan Suman) is a budding photographer who on a trip to Darjeeling meets Sophia. He invites her to come down to Mumbai to pursue a career in modelling. Mumbai changes her life - on one hand she is a rising star in the glamour industry and on the other she falls in love with Aditya. But when he leaves her to marry another girl, she is shattered. Does fate get them back?
Is it a love story, a revenge drama, a sob fest? The most befitting word for it would be - warped. This film starts off as a romantic drama but by the climax, it is too convoluted to get you to even care for its characters. A budding photographer and his muse have a stormy love affair. She is smitten by him, dreams to marry him and hopes for a blissful life together. He wants to be an undefeated achiever who wants to win, by hook or my crook. Marriage, for him, is the passport to a better life.
Director Anil Ballani's concept has promise. His hero is not the quintessential good, idealistic, loving man. He has grave daddy-issues. Being an opportunist is ingrained in his psyche. But Adhyayan fails to deliver an adequately nuanced performance. He could have given Adi some heft and depth, but instead he keeps makes him dull. His grim expression seldom changes, but he does manage to wear his arrogance with a striking nonchalance. His brooding personality gets too tedious. Sara Loren lacks the innocence that should've been the pre-requisite of her character. The leads have no chemistry at all, which is why you never feel invested in their love story.
In the second half, there is a needless legal battle which will wear your patience thin. The charges under which Adi is framed is plain lame. He is ostracized, professionally and personally. His pitiable state does make you feel sorry for him but he never evokes sympathy.
Neither emotional, nor impactful, Ishq Click is a futile watch. Feel free to waste your hours if you deem right.
Aditya Vardhan (Adhyayan Suman) a budding photographer bumps into Sophia (Sara Loren) in Darjeeling. In her first scene, we are told she is an orphan who was left off at a church by her parents. Growing up in the orphanage, she hasn't seen the outside world much. When she meets Aditya, her life feels complete. She takes him around, the two go on chai dates, meet over coffee and he makes an offer she can't refuse - a career in modelling in Mumbai. Sophia boldly takes it up. After a few initial hitches, she is a big name in the modelling industry. Adi, however, doesn't become as successful. To him, she is his muse. He loves her but his love has its conditions. After all, success matters more to him. When he meets Ira, the daughter of a well-known photographer, it is the perfect opportunity for him. He starts taking Ira out on dates and she falls in love. Though her father disapproves of him, she convinces him to get her married. Adi leaves Sophia to marry Ira. Sophia is shattered.
Meanwhile, Aditya becomes a well-known man in the glamour world. His life is going perfectly until he discovers Ira is pregnant. On his first wedding anniversary, Sophia tries committing suicide. When the cops question him, he denies involvement. Later, Sophia's statement saves him. But by then Ira discovers everything about his past and how he had duped Sophia to marry her. She has her sympathies for her and leaves Aditya.
Aditya's life goes downhill as Ira files a case against him. Professionally he gets banned, personally he has no one to share his life with. He begins to miss Ira and realizes her worth. But she is too broken to get him back. After losing his all, he gets papers drafted in her name and names her his heir. Then he goes to Drajeeling to find her, after she leaves Mumbai for good.
In the last scene, Adi commits suicide and Sophia becomes a nun taking care of kids in the orphanage she grew up in.
1) Why Adi leaves Sophia is not clear? The film never shows their relationship going downhill.
2) Ira's legal case doesn't come from logic. She can't charge him with infidelity because Adi and Sophia never meet after he gets married to Ira.
