Rich Dr Akarsh and young middle class girl Acchari meet by accident (quite literally), and seem to have the perfect romance going for them. Just when you think there's a happily ever after, there enters the other woman, Aditi...

Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar is one filmmaker who commands a strong "family audience" fan-following and his films are usually tailored keeping in mind their sensibilities. This time around, the filmmaker has chosen to adapt the story of Dodderi Venkatagiri Rao's Ishtakamya, with modern setting and a more urban theme. The film is set in the beautiful locales of Malnad, where three youngsters' lives end up intertwined. Dr Akarsh is a lonely soul who runs a hospital built by his grandfather. An accident leads him to meeting young and lively Acchari. Fate seems to be bringing them together, with the former giving Acchari a job in his hospital. All seems to be going on song (rather many duet songs), when there is the entry of Aditi, a haughty, independent woman in their lives. She forms an important part of this triangle and the film picks up in both pace and emotions in the second half.

The other highlight of this film is the cameos by Prakash Belawadi and Suman Nagarkar. They play an elderly couple who are living in without marriage, and their conversations with Akarsh and Aditi is an interesting subversion of debate between marriage and live-in relationships that the youngsters often have. The cinematography and music are major highlights of the film, as are the three leads, Vijay Surya, Mayuri and Kavya Shetty, who not only look good but deliver what has been asked of them. Where the story falls short is in the pace. It could have been made racier, and at times the filming style seems a tad older for this generation that relies of everything delivered over a click on their smartphones. The climax, especially, lasts longer than it should have.

That said, Ishtakamya is a decent watch for the family audiences, who want to be entertained in the old-fashioned way. This film has Nagathihalli Chandrashekar's own poetic touch and will definitely not disappoint his die-hard fans.
