STORY: Armed with a degree in journalism from the United States, our protagonist Jai Dwivedi aka JD (Lalit Bisht) dives headlong into the world of hard-hitting print news. He joins a small-time newspaper in Lucknow and gets a byline on the very first day of the job. How or for what piece of news he gets it for, that is not known.

REVIEW: The entire film follows a similar pattern, where JD keeps climbing the ladder of success but we don't exactly know why or how. He's shown as an upright journalist, but he has no qualms taking funding from his crooked politician uncle Divakar Verma (Govind Namdev) to set up his own magazine in Delhi which is also titled JD, short for Journalism Defined. Life then gets complicated as somehow, JD turns into a sex fiend aided by his partner-in-crime Noor (Vedita Pratap Singh). An editor in his magazine, Noor ends up controlling him and his publication and fires employees at will. As an endgame, JD gets charged with raping a journalist from his own magazine, as his lawyer (Aman Verma) fights a hard battle to free him.

The film JD, titled after its protagonist's nickname Jai Dwivedi, claims to be a film that will show you just how the dark side of the media looks like. However, it is anything but that. Instead, what you have are a handful of leftover cliches from Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Page 3' strung together in a haphazard way. Reportedly, the film is loosely based on the life of Tarun Tejpal, but if you've been following the case, it seems a very unlikely account.

Amar Singh's cameo, as a leader who is trapped in a sex scandal, is comical. The rest of the cast, too, seems to be sleepwalking through the film. With a cringe-worthy title track and a handful of additional sappy songs, JD is highly avoidable
