Synopsis : Four unlucky men steal a beagle that is considered to be lucky in the hopes of making money out of it. But the dog goes missing and the four have to deal with an international dog-kidnapping racket
Review : A few weeks ago, we had a film about a lucky fish (Kattapava Kaanom) and now, we have a film about a lucky dog. Here, the dog, Julie is considered lucky because it is one of the extremely rare dogs with three stars on its ear. The film begins with Julie being kidnapped from its owner in the US and brought down to India for a millionaire who wants to sign a deal that will put him among the world’s richest.
Four young men (Amudhavanan, George Vijay, Satheesh RV and Yoganand), who are dejected after being cheated by a swindler, save the beagle and earn the friendship of the millionaire’s daughter, Manisha (Alya Manasa). Noticing the three stars, they steal the dog to demand a ransom of Rs 1 crore. But the dog is stolen from them by an international dog-kidnapping racket. Meanwhile, a girl named Julie elopes with her boyfriend and the four friends get entangled in that issue as well.
While the year has seen some noteworthy debut efforts, most first-time efforts are usually rough around the edges. If there is spark in the creation, it usually makes itself evident and makes us set aside the flaws. Julieum 4 Perum belongs in the third kind of first-films, the kind where all that is visible is ineptness. Right from the writing to the filmmaking, this film has amateurishness written all over it. Every scene is so silly, infantile and preposterous (all in a bad way) that we keep wondering how someone felt that this could be a movie. There is one genuinely funny moment when the youngsters describe what they do with dog Julie and a father and a cop think that they are talking about the missing girl.
Otherwise, if your idea of comedy is watching a dog kicking a football at the crotch of men or a cop farting non-stop and suffocating those around him, you will find this film funny.
