Film synopsis: Shiva is a master conman, Robin Hood-like in his approach. There's also Sathya, an innocent, honest real estate agent. They look alike, but are two different people. Are they really twins or is that an act?

Film review: Kotigobba 2 comes with a lot of expectations. Firstly, it has allusions to late Dr Vishnuvardhan's evergreen it Kotigobba. It also marks the debut of noted Tamil filmmaker KS Ravikumar in Kannada and featurses Sudeep, who has been on a roll at the box office. And fortunately, this film entertains and lives up to the expectations, albeit the film does seem a tad long at times, especially in the second half.

Ravikumar has reinvented one of the most successful tropes of commercial cinema, especially in South Indian cinema, and played it to Sudeep's strengths. This film is reminiscent of films like Shankar's Gentleman, though it does manage to surprise the viewers with innovations and some clever writing. The film makes no bones of being the typical commercial entertainer, replete with multiple comedy tracks, romance, action and songs, with a soppy father-son sentiment track as a bonus. What is amazing is that this concoction is just right, giving fans of old-fashioned masala entertainers just what they require.

One of the best things about the film is the casting, Sudeep fits like a glove when it comes to the lead character. He has the swagger that is necessary and he charms the audience as both Sathya and Shiva. Nithya Menen's capabilities as a performer are known, and she manages to add some pizzazz to what would have otherwise been a typical cutesy heroine role.
P Ravi Shankar is the other stand out actor in the film and his role is different from his usual loud, OTT characters and he makes full use of it.
The movie scores high on the technical front with click action, cinematography, editing and background score. D Imman's tunes are catchy too. This film is a treat for people who like to be entertained in with the traditional commercial masala fare, for Kotigobba 2 has ample spaces where fans can hoot and whistle.
