Six individuals brave superstitions and embark on a journey through the forest on the last bus available from a remote hamlet to be stranded in a haunted house. The term psychological thriller has been often abused by makers in Sandalwood in the name of horror. Last Bus, fortunately, has more than just gimmicks and puts forth a unique concept that leaves the viewer walking out with his own conclusion. In an age when most makers assume the viewers are just mindless members of the masses, SD Arvinda and his team have entertained the audience with some intelligent writing, giving them their due credit. Talking about the plot would do gross injustice because the team has crafted a film that is picturesque, be it through cinematography, art or graphics. Almost all actors have done justice to their roles and the screenplay keeps you hooked till the end. Just when you think you know what's going on, there's a twist that makes you guess again. The spellbinding locales leave the audience asking for more. Even the haunted house is well-designed. The background score is just right, without being excessively loud like it is in films belonging to this genre. The song Doori stands out, giving you the goosebumps. The acting by each character in the song is praiseworthy. When is comes to performances, the makers must be lauded for choosing characters that suit the part rather than the other way round. The six persons stranded in the house make us believe they are the characters they play for the two hours. It will be unjust to single out one actor becuase everyone seems to be on top of their game, be it Meghashree as the sensuous Seethakka, Rajesh as the pandit whose beliefs are questioned or Manasa as Mamtha, who is a mom on a mission. The rest of the cast, which includes Prakash Belawadi as a lascivious, over-ambitious and vengeful filmmaker, is also a treat to watch. If over-the-top comedy or action and ready-to-eat masala films aren't your staple diet and you yearn for films that challenge you as a viewer, this one deserves a watch.
