Manjappa has been working at the government office for two decades as the lift operator. He comes to the limelight following an unusual development in the cabinet. The tale traces his life story.

This film is based loosely on the life story of a real-life lift operator in Vidhana Soudha. Made with a modest budget, the film is backed by some good performances by seasoned actors. This film isn't your gritty fast-paced thriller, instead, it unfolds at the pace of a stumbling old lift in a government office, symbolic to the character who mans it.

The film, which is Sundar Raj's 200th appearance on the silver screen, gives the veteran actor a chunky role to play as Manjappa. While the lead actor and the ensemble cast deliver what is expected of them, one cannot but notice a slightly sloper pace of narration that sets in periodically, which could have been avoided. The background score adds a poignant touch to the narrative. The film begins on a very dramatic note, but falters midway, only to be salvaged by Sundar Raj's earnestness as Manjappa.

This film could have very well been India's own The Butler, given that it shows the protagonist's journey with the backdrop of political change over two decades. While we hear about this through the words of the lead actor, little is shown on screen. One gets to see stray cases like that of a CM's son promising lifetime commitment to a young girl and then going back on those words, which subtly hint at some real references. But, one wishes there was more of this seen through Manjappa's eyes.

While this is no gritty political drama, the film has its moments that make you root for this atypical protagonist. Go ahead, watch it once if you like to see the frailties of human emotions portrayed by a not-so-typical hero.

Splendid, matured performance''Sunder Raj - the main character, Chandra Barkoor - story and script and Shree Dhar - Captain of this Ship steal the show... Loads of words spoken through silent expressions and the lift itself becomes a character.... Even though, it is a slow pace cinema, definitely it has a classiness which some of the films lack. The absence of the music would have not impacted the film'' for the movie
