Synopsis: Sairam(Mohanlal), an assistant manager in a supermarket treads on an unethical path for a promotion, leading to dire consequences. Gayatri (Gautami) a thrifty housewife manages her middle class household. Mahitha's(Raina Rao) friend, a street child goes missing and she goes out of her way to find him. Abhiram (Viswant), the bright student falls in love with Aira (Anisha Ambrose) and pursues her. Four stories seemingly unrelated are all bound by one string called family.

Movie Review: Simple and beautiful would perfectly sum up Manamantha. The four lead characters in the movie have their own little plot going on parallelly, and they all end intertwined and wrapped up in a bow. The progression of the movie from the light hearted introductions to the steady elevation of emotions was a beauty in terms of story-telling. Although the movie's narration on the whole seemed a little slow, the stories themselves are engaging enough to overlook that. The concept that could've easily been dismissed as a TV serial was woven beautifully with a screenplay fit for the big screen. And it worked!
You'll forget that there was Mohanlal and Gautami in this movie; they were just Sairam and Gayatri. They were every middleclass man and wife. While that is expected from veteran actors such as themselves, Raina Rao who played Mahitha, soared past expectations effortlessly. On par with these experienced actors she was incredibly convincing in her innocent and full-of-hope role. Viswant too did justice to the role of love-struck Abhiram.
Comedy in this movie flows naturally - in conversation - unlike the many mainstream movies that fail to invoke laughter despite elaborate comedy tracks. Urvashi who plays Gayatri's quirky neighbour is adorable in her role and gets the audience chuckling almost every time she appears on screen.
While bilingual's usually slack off in terms of nativity and only focus on the dialogues, this movie feels like it was made specifically for the Telugu audience. And speaking of dialogues, they were a lot more entertaining and believable than the "punch dialogues" that Tollywood is used to.
It would be remiss to not speak of the art direction in the movie. The attention to detail and the level of work that went into making the roles and their surroundings seem authentic was commendable. There was nothing plastic about the movie and neither were the settings that the characters were presented in.
There are no villains in this movie. There are just people and circumstances. Manamantha is a no frills film that you must watch with your family.
