Monchuri is actually the perfect revenge film. If you have a grudge against someone, just gift him a ticket. You'll feel sweet the next day.

Coming in today's time and age, the film really stands out — one, for its extremely outdated style of production, and two, for someone even imagining that they will get away (and even earn money) by making such a juvenile film. What's the difference between a standup comic act and a comedy film? The film has a story. At least, it's supposed to have one. Monchuri doesn't. It's two hours of brainless beating about the bush that finally leads nowhere. The only silver lining — some truly hilarious and innovative dialogues every 15 minutes or so. Kartik (Saswata) and Ganesh (Biswanath) are ace students at Dharmadas's (Kharaj) unique college for criminals. But the duo are terrible with women, and end up marrying two extremely dominating sisters (Konineeca & Daminee). Coming in today's time and age, the film really stands out — one, for its extremely outdated style of production, and two, for someone even imagining that they will get away (and even earn money) by making such a juvenile film. I call it juvenile because of the sheer aimlessness of the whole plot and the attempts to make people laugh with borderline obscene one-liners.

It fact, these one-liners are the only takeaways from the film. Otherwise, the very thought of two over-aged men — Biswanath and Saswata — studying in a college and trying to learn the art of stealing hearts is enough to make you go seek something sweet to chew on. That, of course, doesn't mean that the duo, or any other actor, has done a bad job in the acting department. They apparently overacted just as much as the director wanted them to.
But that's not all. It's time I touched the sorest chord — camerawork. Trust me, it's a rare torture to sit through such poor visuals. Thanks to the framing and angles, the whole film seems to be a B-grade cousin of a flop from the 1980s. Remember the hilarious special effects of Nagina? Now, mix that with a film of that era high on the dehaat ambience — kuchcha roads, village ponds and such things. And voila! You get the perfect mix for Monchuri. It's actually hard to describe it as anything more than a dignified impromptu school play, in which all actors improvise and act, but no one has a clue what will happen at the end. And yes, the music department, too, can't be rated high. On second thoughts, Monchuri is actually the perfect revenge film. If you have a grudge against someone, just gift him a ticket. You'll feel sweet the next day.
