The actors have done a wonderful job, no doubt about that, but when the story falls flat there is nothing much the artists can do to save it.

The journey of a young girl from being a stubborn child to ruling the film industry as an actress.

Review: Fame comes with its share of pros and cons and more so in the life of a filmstar. Deep inside the glamour and shining flashbulbs, there is a part of an actress that dies a slow death as her career progresses, or at least that is what the filmmaker wants us to believe.

As a young girl from Kolhapur, Sulakshana (Teja) is in awe of films and has her mind set on becoming an actress. Her father (Kishore Kadam), a lightman with a film studio staunchly opposes this fad of hers and does his best to make her stay away from it. His anger reaches its peak when Sulakshana joins the cast of a film when her mother is lying on the deathbed. Sulakshana runs away to Mumbai to make her mark as an actress and is helped by her uncle (Shashank Shende) and Mashuka (Kishori Shahane) in the endeavour. Her career takes off when she is cast in director Mahesh Chandorkar's (Ajinkya) film and then there is no looking back. But as luck would have it, Sulakshana, now known as Resham, hits a bad patch and has to compromise on a lot of things. In doing so, she also refuses a marriage proposal from fellow actor Amit Kumar (Subodh) and who once used to be in demand for lead roles becomes an actress who nobody wants to work with.

There is nothing new to offer in the story which is a balanced mix of Smita Patil's 'Bhumika' and Vidya Balan's 'The Dirty Picture'. The rise and fall of an actress, the wrong choices she makes, her problems and the stress she goes through has been told in multiple films before. So you are virtually watching the pieces of a same jigsaw puzzle scattered at different intervals unfolding onscreen. The actors have done a wonderful job, no doubt about that, but when the story falls flat there is nothing much the artists can do to save it.

The film is about Teja and she doesn't disappoint with her performance. Ajinkya, Subodh, Kishori, Shashank and Kishore fit their parts well too. Watch this one if you haven't watched the two films mentioned before that it is inspired from.
