: Five graduates who are friends while away their lives idly. In walks a girl who stirs things up…
: The promo materials of Pattathari have a certain sheen to them, giving rise to the hope that this could be one of those small films that turn into a sweet surprise. But unfortunately, the film is anything but that. It has a story that has been told umpteen times on screen and in much better fashion. It is the story of five graduates who while away their time at the tea shop where their friend works. Each one has their own romance going and up until the second half, we mostly see them only in the tea shop or in a bar, where they pick up fights, either on their own or inadvertently. And then, Ilakiya (Adhiti) tells one of them, Siva (Abisaravanan), that she is in love with him, but he is in no mood to reciprocate. Why doesn’t he want to get into relationship with her? With a storyline that is hardly compelling, it is no surprise that Pattathari feels uneventful. Even the mystery around Siva’s hatred for women is clichéd (all we get is an overlong flashback portion). Save for Adhiti, who is expressive and is a promising find, the other actors lack screen presence, and barely register.
