Barring the few minor glitches, Sada Canvas is certainly a good watch — an out-and-out paisa wasool movie.

Renowned artist Anjan (Rohit Roy) is in the midst of a prolonged creative block when an art student, Ria (Malobika Banerjee) walks into his life and turns it into a virtual nightmare.

Sada Canvas is anything but white. It is, in fact, one colourful journey through the lives of its few characters, their emotions, passions and dreams. But despite being a visual treat, it's like a song with a few beats missing. The drama, which has ample scope to reach thrilling heights, is too 'controlled' to truly excite the way it is meant to.

Rohit and Paoli are good as artist Anjan and wife Rupa. Though they don't exactly sizzle on screen as a pair, they do show interesting chemistry that makes for a good watch. Even Malobika is good as village girl Ria, who starts showing a grey streak as the film progresses. But it is Ria's character that could have been explored a lot more. Her 'poisonous' obsessive behaviour seems a bit too subdued to actually make an impact on the audience.

As for the storyline, it's crisp and uncomplicated, making the overall viewing experience a smooth sailing. Add to that the colourful art direction by Amit Chatterjee and good camera work by Alok Maiti and what emerges is a colourful canvas that is certainly soothing to the eye. The continuity elements are also in place, adding smoothness to the visual progression. Even the music by Rishi Chanda and the background score by Binit Ranjan Maiti are subtle and hence, good.

But one thing that seems out of place on the canvas is village lass Ria's dress sense and wardrobe. How can a girl who barely gets through life on a meagre salary of Rs 4,000 a month, wear outfits that would easily cost her more than a month's pay apiece? Fine, we understand that she is schizophrenic and is obsessed with her teacher Anjan, but how does that justify expensive outfits? Makes no sense at all...

But barring the few minor glitches, Sada Canvas is certainly a good watch — an out-and-out paisa wasool movie.
