Synopsis: While we are getting used to this "second half syndrome", this is one of those rare cases where the second half shines over the first. And yet again, a story with potential goes awry.

Movie Review: A few questions before we begin. Does the concept of a dozen women raping a man seem funny to you? Does the idea of a palace - called Shankarabharanam - existing in Bihar seem logical to you? When you think of gangsters, do they come across as people who listen to your ideas after they kidnap you? Well, that's Shankarabharanam for you. A film which has no logic at times but can make you laugh for a few moments.

Sample this: An NRI with a fake accent. A village belle who loves everything about the western world. And oh, the rape of course! We also have a "top actress" settling to be the "keep" of a gangster. Further, this is a film which has a "direction supervisor"!

The story goes like this - Gautham (Nikhil Siddhartha) has come all the way to India to sell an ancestral property where he meets a family he had never known the existence of. He meets his cousin Happy Thakur (Nanditha) and she is obviously the eventual love interest. Gautham becomes the centre of interest as he becomes this hot property every gang in Bihar wants to kidnap because he is obviously the big fish. Who manages to kidnap him? Do they get the money? Does he escape or is there something else? That's a brief intro into this film.

While this is a remake of the Hindi flick Phas Gaya Re Obama, instead of staying true to the original, the makers add their own commercial elements like the family drama, overtly done comedy (except for Pruthvi who is one of the best things in the film) and a really dragged out time frame. Also, the character sketches are localized but not in a great way and the songs feel absolutely unnecessary! The changes made to the original stop the story from moving to the main plot and you see it go forward at its own slow pace and by the time you reach the actual point of interest, you are bored already.

The second half is where you have all the laughs. Also, a lot is happening and you are gripped to the seats. It's also in this section that Anjali makes an appearance as a lady don and she is simply brilliant.

As for Nikhil, though he gives a remarkable performance, it feels obvious that he is lost in what he thought was a potentially interesting tale which finally ended up being lost in the narration. Nanditha is cute but she hasn't really got much to do. It's Ankita Sharma who surprises though with her Telugu diction. She has done a pretty good job for her first outing here. Sampath is a highlight with his evil yet foolish antics. Sanjay Mishra and his gang - Shakalaka Shankar and Satyam Rajesh - make some memorable scenes.

Director Uday Nandanavanam seems to have done a pretty decent job but it is the story which fails him and evidently, he couldn't do much about it!
