Plot: What happens when 8 gangsters are brought together in a house and told not to create any ruckus if they want to stay alive?

Review: The audience loves a good gangster movie as is evident from quite a few previous films. What if instead of just a couple of gangsters, you get 8 deadly one under one roof? Well, that's 'Saturday Sunday' for you.

The title might confuse you into thinking that this is a weekend holiday movie but the actual scenario is entirely different. The personal assistant of the state's home minister drops by a film shoot happening at a secluded bungalow and asks the producer to vacate the premises before the weekend for another 'shoot' to take place there. The order is followed and on Saturday a new shoot, shootout for that matter, begins at the bungalow. The PA (Makrand Deshpande) gathers 8 gangsters who are on the police force's most wanted list at the place and tells them to follow his orders if they want to live over the weekend. They do so unwillingly knowing that the police is on the lookout for them but are confused when a crime reporter (Neha Joshi), 2 documentary filmmakers and an encounter specialist cop (Murli Sharma) join the group. What unfolds is a interesting and twisted tale of crime and drama.

In his Marathi directorial debut, Makrand Deshpande manages to engross the audience with his thrilling story and action. The bold and witty dialogues add more masala to the already spicy film. Such is the power of the story that you will keep guessing what the intention behind all the action is. Makrand is at his menacing best and all the gangsters look and fit their parts. Amruta Subhash makes a fleeting appearance as an actress who accidentally lands at the venue.
The pace and crispness work in favour of 'Saturday Sunday' and so do the performances. Most of the actors have worked with Makarand and share a good equation with him which has translated brilliantly in the film. Where the film suffers is towards the end when the motive presents itself. You are left wondering what the point of all this was as the explanation given is bizarre.

Anyway, 'Saturday Sunday' calls for a one-time watch for its gripping plot and effortless performances.
