Story: Shankara (Nara Rohit) a college student and angry young man moves to Hyderabad to live with his brother’s family, where he falls in love with Ananya (Regina Cassandra), his maradalu. A corrupt ACP commits a murder to keep 16 crores to himself accompanied by two other cops. Scurrying to cover up one crime, the cops spiral into numerous more. As a result of a series of coincidences, Shankara gets caught amidst the crime spree. The rest of the film traces how Shankara gets out of the situation and brings the perpetuators to justice.
Movie Review: If you overlook the fact that the director gave in to the demands of a mainstream movie – what with a love track, the heavy emotion dialogues, and slow motion fights – the actual story of the movie is quite engaging.
There’s either too much going on in the movie or everything slows down for a romantic song. There’s no in between in this one. The background music also carries the feel of the movie in certain places. Although the story has numerous elements, characters and episodes, it all wraps up in a neat little bow towards the end. However hastily done, all loopholes were plugged, all logic was met.
Nara Rohit did what he could for the role, but somehow the angry persona worked out well for him. Emoting anger came naturally to him. Regina’s character of a grownup medical student, yet a childish damsel was a tad bit irritating. John Vijay lived it up to the role of the ruthless ACP. If he was trying to seem psychopathic then he certainly succeeded. Rajeev Kanakala was a delight to watch as his character evolves through the movie. Whether that was done intentionally or otherwise, Rajeev made an impact on his end.
Shankara is a regular whodunit thriller with an interesting story which gets lost in a distracted narration. If you choose to go for it, which is quite unlikely, you won’t entirely regret it.
