Would you watch a film if the storyline is as old as Indian Cinema, the script is repetitive and almost all actors do a bad job? You certainly wouldn't. So, when you see a poster of the film, Sweetheart, with actors like Paoli Dam and Indraneil Sengupta on it, don't be fooled. It's not a sweet romocom as it appears to be, in fact far from it. It's a textbook example of poor direction. Paoli plays a college kid, Mimi, who stays with her father, Animesh (Santu Mukherjee). Animesh is at loggerheads with the local powerful promoter Phoni Sarkhel (Rajatava Dutta) as he refused to sell his ancestral house to Phoni. To blackmail Animesh, Phoni instructs his goons to kidnap Mimi. So, one evening, on her way back from college, Mimi is attacked and consequently rescued by our hero, Arjun (Indraneil). He comes riding a bike from nowhere and a lot of disshhoom disshoom later, saves the damsel in distress. They fall in love and their story encounters more drama in the forms of her disapproving father, the interfering promoter and what not. The director doesn't even try to make any original variations to this age-old and used-to-death plot and that's what makes this film not worthy of your time. Even the actors do half-hearted jobs (except for the brilliant Rajatava Dutta. He can be called the saving grace of this film). Nothing good can be mentioned about Indraneil and Paoli's performances except Indraneil does have a hot bod and skinny doesn't suit Paoli at all. The music of the film also fails to strike a chord. And the Holi song must be one of the most lewd songs ever made in the rich history of Holi songs in Indian cinema.
