Story: 16-year-old teen Cassie Sullivan (Chloe Grace Moretz) must survive to save her kid brother after an alien invasion leaves most of Earth decimated.

Review: This generic young adult, sci-fi based on the book by the same name, begins as a survival thriller a la 'The Hunger Games.' The aliens or the 'others' replace elitist humans here, who want to kill the weaker species. They wage a series of attacks (waves) on the humans, with the 5th wave suspected to being the most destructive, conclusive one. Distinguishing the aliens is impossible as they look just like humans.

Amid this chaos, Cassie and her family seek refuge in a survivor camp. The army comes over and takes charge of the refugees promising them security. However, things get out of hand. Cassie gets left out, her father killed and brother shifted to an Air Force base along with other children. There they are made to undergo combat training to fight the aliens. But naturally, there is more to it than meets the eye. Can Cassie find her brother and save mankind?

The 5th Wave is a dumbed down version of Twilight. There's a love triangle that is intolerably daft. While the humans are being wiped off the face of earth and Cassie's brother is still missing, she is busy making out with a hunky Evan (Alex Roe).

Unlike Twilight, where at least the attraction between Bella and Edward is gradual and intense, this love track is unintentionally laughable. Cassie spots Evan shirtless, bathing in the lake, ogles his lean muscular body and realises she's in love.

There is no sense of urgency in situations (not even the love scenes), considering it's a survival thriller. The story moves lethally slow and every scene is predictable. It fails to evoke unrest or tension among the viewers. Gun-wielding kids running helter-skelter to attack the others look silly. Most disappointing is the great twist or the big revelation that you end up guessing at the very beginning.

Performances are equally uninspiring. The boys in supporting roles still do a decent job but Chloe Moretz fails to cash in on her lead role. The film comes across as an underwhelming fan tribute to Twilight and The Hunger Games series. Watch 'other' films instead.

nothing new in d movie. same old story...none of the actor did good to their role
Maybe; probably. The movie isn''t bad. Director J Blakeson ("The Disappearance of Alice Creed") keeps the screws relatively tight and maintains a reasonably effective level of dread, buoyed by the usual cautious dys-lit Young Adult romance (one can-do female protagonist, torn between two smitten fellas). The Rick Yancey book of the same name, published in 2013, was the first in a trilogy. So if "The 5th Wave" is a hit, there''ll be plenty of time to answer this question: Can Chloe Grace Moretz learn how to convincingly portray a character who looks like she''s going through anything rougher than a skip down Rodeo Drive?
