For a filmmaker, making the film crisp without losing its essence, is of utmost importance. Leave alone the crispness, the film doesn’t really have a proper narrative either.

In order to educate his son Bhalya, his father Shukrya struggles hard but Bhalya is passionate about something else.

Review: When you think of an Indian sports drama, the images of 'Lagaan' and 'Chak De! India' come to the mind. While both films had a definite sports angle, one cannot neglect the drama in these films. When it's not a sports biopic, the drama is what plays a vital role in a sports-related film and Well Done Bhalya makes ample used of it, although unsuccessfully.

The story goes that Shukrya (Narvekar), who belongs to a tribe, wants his son to study and be a successful man. For this, he's ready to do any work that comes his way. Bhalya (Solkar), like any other kid his age, doesn't really care about school but it fascinated by cricket. He spends long hours watching the school kids playing the game and even joins them in a couple of games. The kid shows unbelievable (and inexplicable) talent while wielding the willow and he's soon selected in the school team (irrelevant of the fact that he's almost never seen at school). Bhalya's selection angers the local politician Gajabhau's (Yadav) son who happens to be the brat already in the team. The matter worsens when Gajabhau comes to know of it.

For a filmmaker, making the film crisp without losing its essence, is of utmost importance. Leave alone the crispness, the film doesn't really have a proper narrative either. There is the build up to Bhalya's selection which includes Shukrya's sacrifices and the usual melodrama but on what basis Bhalya is selected and how he's trained is perhaps something that the filmmaker didn't think important to show.

Youngster Solkar shows spark and Narvekar gets his act right but that and a whole bunch of known faces including Ramesh Deo, Alka Kubal and Sharad Ponkshe aren't enough to salvage the film.

If you manage to stay calm till the end credits roll, we've nothing but this compliment for you- well done!
