Santosh is still coming to terms with his father's demise when his father's ghost starts haunting him with a strange request- that of celebrating its birthday.
Making a comedy is tough business, but when you combine it with an element of drama, it's like hitting two targets with one arrow. You not only drive home a point but do so with a humour interspersed in it. Zindagi Virat takes this approach and largely keeps you engaged.
After performing the last rites of his father Dattoba (Kishore Kadam), the priest tells Santosh (Bhutkar) that till the time his father's last wish isn't fulfilled, his ghost will keep haunting Santosh. So, together with his friend Asif (Sanghamitra), Santosh embarks on a journey to do just that. What's the wish? Well, Dattoba always wanted someone to celebrate his birthday but no one did. It is now Santosh's duty to find out Dattoba's birthdate and celebrate his birthday.
Zindagi Virat follows a simple narrative and is essentially a journey of discovering a lost relation. It might come across as slow for some but the pace actually works in the film's favour. Debutant director Sumit Sanghamitra's takes the light-hearted way to bring out a father-son relationship instead of making it serious.
Boasting of a fine combination of established actors and promising young talent, the film scores brownie points in the acting department. While Kishore Kadam and Atul Parchure perform sincerely, Bhutkar and Sanghamitra give a contemporary twist to the Jai-Viru ki dosti. Usha Naik and Bhau Kadam, in cameos, add weight to the star cast but don't get to do anything different from some of their recent roles.
Minor flaws apart, Zindagi Virat is an entertaining film that will make you laugh and leave a smile on your face.
