When a movie stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, you know the movie cannot be that bad. He played the power-packed performance of a rage filled murderer. Although, the movie performed averagely at the Box Office, Nawazuddin's acting was highly applauded!
12 movies that flopped at the Box Office but were a hit with the audiences!
A flop or a milestone? You decide! Often actors devote their time and energy on a film project they find challenging, only to see it perform below average at the Box Office. Even Vishal Bhardwaj’s ambitious project, Rangoon which had heavyweights in lead roles but tanked at the box office. Listed are some of the best performances of celebrities which unfortunately failed to deliver at the box office:
Rangoon was Vishal Bhardwaj’s ambitious project starring Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor. Although, the movie didn’t find much audience, Kangana once again proved her credibility with her role as Jaanbaaz Julia
It was hard to believe that a movie which starred Shah Rukh Khan could have possibly failed at the cash registers. Playing a fan who was completely besotted with a Bollywood superstar, he was no less than brilliant in the movie.
The movie, which is based on captured prisoner Sarabjit Singh saw Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan giving stellar performances. While Randeep was all skin and bones and Aishwarya aged, and looked unrecognizable for the character, the movie didn’t seem to work well at the theatres.
Aligarh was a subject that was brilliantly done yet couldn’t bring masses to the theatres. Manoj Bajpayee beautifully portrayed the character of Professor Ramchandra Siras, who was wrongfully tried.
After Raanjhana, Tamil Actor Dhanush worked with R. Balki in ‘Shamitabh’ where he played a mute man wanting to become an actor. He totally stole the show, if you ask us but not at the Box Office!
Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet was one of the most anticipated films of 2015. The movie starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar tanked miserably at the Box Office due. But, what shone through the film was Ranbir Kapoor’s role as ‘Johny Balraj’, a small-time boxer trying to make it big in 1960s Bombay. Karan Johar, too was appreciated for his breakthrough performance in the film.
Another gem on the list is Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai which also starred Kalki Koechlin and Abhay Deol. Emran Hasmi had the critics nod with his breakthrough role but did not find the audiences for the same!
Heroine, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar was highly anticipated. Kareena Kapoor Khan looked gorgeous and performed exceptionally well in the movie but failed to make its mark at the Box Office.
We personally think Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’ deserves another watch. Playing a man wishing to die, it was one of the best roles Hrithik Roshan ever performed. Period.
Another SRK starrer makes it to the lost. Shah Rukh Khan played such an intense role in a brilliant manner in the film by Ashutosh Govarriker. The film might not have performed well, but it is still remembered for Shah Rukh Khan’s simple and charming role.
Being a star kid, Abhishek Bachchan has seen his fair share of films doing average business but perhaps his performance in Yuva was one of his career best. He delivered one of his best roles till date although, the multi starrer failed to work its magic on the Box Office.
