Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father Krishnaraj Rai passed away due to prolonged illness in Mumbai on March 18. His funeral was held the next day where every member from the film fraternity came to offer their deep condolences to the grieving family. While the family members were crying for their loss, media was also present at the funeral where they clicked pictures of the mourners. This didn't go well with Alia Bhatt's sister Shaheen Bhatt who slammed the photographers who came in large numbers to cover.
It is not okay to be a voyeur of death
The media's presence irked Shaheen to a great extent that she decided to post an aggressive note on her Instagram page where she asked media to draw some lines in this crazy voyeuristic age that we are live in.
She wrote, "I have never understood the media showing up to high profile funerals to take pictures of grieving family members. Death is traumatic enough without pictures of you at your most broken being circulated all over social media.
And why does anyone want to see that? Does anyone really want to click on links that promise us photographs of grief-stricken celebrities crying over the loss of their parent?
The insensitivity of it all is mind boggling. There need to be some lines drawn in the crazy voyeuristic age we live in and I think this is one of those lines. It is not okay to be a voyeur of death. It is not okay to treat a funeral like a party and show up to take pictures of the mourners in their finest white.
If you come across pictures like this please don't click and contribute.
According to reports, Rai, who was in the ICU for the past few weeks, continued to be in a critical state throughout his stay and there was only minor improvement in his condition. He is survived by wife Vrinda, son Aditya and daughter Aishwarya.
