Is Karan the best representative of drama and heartaches in Bollywood? His fans think so and he doesn’t disagree! Speaking about all the drama his films portray, he says, “People say Hindi films are theatrical and dramatic, but somewhere its roots are in real life. I have been at a shaadi ka mandap when the love of my life was getting married to somebody else… When it happens to you, you feel like you can’t get over what’s happening to you. A happy marriage in the industry would really jolt me. I’d be like, ‘You’re a dinosaur, get out of here.’’ The director truly put his heart into his last, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

I couldn’t believe they were two big pieces of me who are staring at me, who are innocent, vulnerable. It was the most surreal overwhelming emotion I have ever experienced.”

The director recently became a father to two little twins, who were born through a surrogate, Roohi and Yash. How does it feel being a single parent to two little babies? Karan says candidly, he is more of a mother than a fatherly figure to his babies. “I would be the mother of my children. I will be both mother and father. I will be more of a mother than father.” Like his parents, he too would be supportive to his children and would encourage them in whatever they want to do in life.
