Shahid Kapoor speaks up on the ‘puppy’ controversy
Hubby Shahid Kapoor has always showered praise for Mira Rajput and this time too, he is supporting his wife in the light of the 'puppy' backlash. Here's what Shahid had to say about Mira Rajput's controversial statements at a recent event.
What Mira Rajput said
In an event, talking about motherhood and feminism on Women’s day, Mira spoke about a woman’s choice to go to work or be a homemaker. Mira seemed to judge working women with her comment which said, “I wouldn’t want to spend one hour a day with my child and rush off to work, why did I have her? She is not a puppy; I want to be there for her as a mother.”
What Shahid spoke
Shahid, who recently received ‘Man of the Year’ award from Femina, said that he is proud of his wife’s views. He further said, “I don’t think she made a direct comment on anybody or any category of women. I think she was saying from a very personal standpoint. Mira is speaking for a section of women who really aren’t being represented. There are times when those women feel like they shouldn’t be celebrated and by that I mean women who might not be doing a job, who might choose to stay at home, have a baby and take care of that baby and consider that something important enough to do at a certain stage in your life.”
Everybody gets hurt over little things nowadays
Talking about the flak the 22 year old received, Shahid said he doesn’t care much about ‘certain’ people getting offended. He says, “I understand people have a strong point of view and they can get hurt about things but I think we are in a time where everybody is getting hurt about everything. I, honestly, don’t think it makes sense to keep everybody happy. A lot of people want to gain importance by saying something against them.”
"I took time off for Misha as well"
Shahid supported the idea of women feeling empowered when he said that a woman’s choice to stay at home is also empowerment. He continued, “I took my months off when I was having Misha because I felt it was important to be with my wife and my child. That’s a choice which you make out of a certain sense of independence and I think there are very few people who are shown any kind of appreciation for these women. They should feel empowered and self-assured about the fact that they are extremely important and what they do is as important as any other job.”
Supported Mira after Koffee with Karan
This is not the first time when Shahid has come out in wife Mira’s support. Following their appearance on Koffee with Karan, Mira received a lot of hate for her views on arranged marriage. Shahid said that he and his wife are unfazed by the criticism, which he feels he is bound to happen for a public figure.
Vandalism on the sets of Padmavati
Shahid also spoke about the unfortunate incident that occurred on the sets on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie ‘Padmavati’. Recently, the sets of the upcoming movie were burned with petrol bombs in Kolhapur. Shahid spoke about the issue saying, “I am aware there has been some disruption that happened, I am aware that a certain amount of costumes got burnt, I am aware everybody is safe and nobody got harmed. The shooting has wrapped up and the team is coming back. It is rather unfortunate that the incident is happening for the second time.”
