Ramesh Sipppy is regarded as a legend in Bollywood and the audience was mighty impressed by the movie when it first came out. If we remember correctly, Sholay was one of the longest running movies in Bollywood with a run of over 5 years! No wonder, it sold close to 5,52,34,000.

Before Baahubali, we had Gadar, which was famous in every houselhold across the country! The number of tickets sold for the movie stand at about 5,09,54,000!
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge broke Sholay’s record run at the theatres with people running to see the movie for 20 years! Not just that, it also saw massive footfalls with close to 4,80,89,000 tickets being sold.
The movie was the biggest box office hit of 1996 and the biggest ticket seller that year, selling about 4,09,56,000 tickets!
As long as the patriotic movie was, so were the number of people queuing up to buy the tickets! Rough estimates suggest that the number of tickets sold were about 3,70,21,000.
It is still continuing its golden run in China but we cannot forget Dangal was the perfect end of the year blockbuster! The number of people who went to see the movie were as many as 3,69,32,000.
