The CBFC might have banned the film and categorized it as ‘distasteful’ for audiences but it isn’t stopping the makers from getting the film a screening at last!
Lipstick Under My Burkha
The movie, which stars Konkona Sen, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra , Plabita Borthakur and Vikrant Massey in lead roles was passed up to the film certification board but was banned in the country , reasoning it unsuitable and against ethics. The movie might not get to have a screening in India but in some welcoming news which goes against the CBFC ruling, the movie will be screened at the New York Indian Film Festival. The 17th film festival, which is an annual affair will see the film being screened at the opening night on April 30.
Banned in India
Speaking about the upcoming screening and the ban, Aroon Shivdasani, the organizer of the Film Festival was quoted in an interview with a leading daily saying,
“It was unfortunate that the film was banned in the country and the characters in the film depicts normal sexual desires among women, which need not be repressed.”
The movie, which is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, revolves around the lives of four women in small towns who try to gain back their freedom in their personal lives. The movie, recently took home a great honour by winning the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the Amsterdam Film Festival.
